Greater Richmond

RVA tennis, the whole metro.

We pair players for singles, matches, tournaments, king of the court, lessons, ball machines, coaching, and Open Play from the city out to the Tri-Cities and the outer counties.

Greater Richmond

RVA here means the Richmond metro. The city. Henrico, Chesterfield, and Hanover. Petersburg, Hopewell, and Colonial Heights. Goochland, Powhatan, New Kent, and the counties around them. The board can meet you at a city park, a Henrico rec center, or a Chesterfield court, because that is where Thursday tennis actually is.

The city guide lives at Richmond tennis. This page is the rest of the map.

Where people actually come from

Richmond. The Fan, Museum District, Carytown, Scott’s Addition, Church Hill, Manchester, Jackson Ward, Northside, Southside. Byrd is the big complex. Battery and Bryan cover the north. Forest Hill, Westover, and Broad Rock cover the south.

Henrico. Short Pump, Glen Allen, Tuckahoe, Varina, Innsbrook, Lakeside. Belmont on Hilliard Road is the year-one rec-center court. Glen Allen, Belmont or Bryan is the close trip. Short Pump and Innsbrook are on the join form, and a west-end park joins the court list when that group is steady.

Chesterfield. Midlothian, Chester, Bon Air, Brandermill. Rockwood on Courthouse Road — six lighted hard courts — is the close-in county court. Forest Hill, Westover, and Broad Rock stay the city options south of the river.

Hanover. Mechanicsville and Ashland. Both are on the join form. A Hanover park joins the court list when that group is steady.

Tri-Cities. Petersburg, Hopewell, and Colonial Heights. Same list, same newsletter, same Claim this match when a session is posted.

West and outer. Goochland, Powhatan, and New Kent, plus Amelia, Charles City, Dinwiddie, King and Queen, King William, Prince George, and Sussex. Tell us the town on the join form. The drive is real, and the pairing still is.

After work, or the weekend

Richmond tennis clusters after work and on weekend mornings. Byrd and Battery have lights. Several other year-one parks are daylight courts, so a late king of the court belongs on a lighted complex. The events page is where a posted session lives, with the time and the court in the note.

How you get on a court

  1. Join the Richmond list for the newsletter and first dibs.
  2. Read the court, the level, and the time on the board.
  3. Claim this match if you will show up. A full session takes a waitlist.
  4. Arrive a few minutes early, at the court in the note, with a racquet.

Each match is its own claim. The competitive weekly version is a Richmond tennis league you enter one session at a time.
